WELCOME TO ASSATEAGUE ISLAND
Famous for its wild horses, Assateague offers a secluded saltwater escape unlike anything else along the east coast.

Beach & Activities
While the famous boardwalk and beach in Ocean City is a mere 8 miles away, the quiet, untouched beauty of Assateague Island provides an escape from the bustling nearby beach town. There’s also opportunities for kayaking, fishing, hiking and more.

Where to Stay
Assateague offers camping on both the Maryland State Park and the National Seashore. There are also numerous hotels and campgrounds within a 10-mile radius of the island.

Let them Stay Wild
More than 2.1 MILLION people flock to Assateague Island every year hoping to catch a glimpse of our most famous residents. Learn about these beautiful horses and how you can help protect them during your visit.

Remember the Island
If you love Assateague as much as we do, you may want to take something home to remember your trip! We’ve created a few unique souvenirs to have shipped directly to your home. A portion of all proceeds from our shop will go to the local Assateague Island Alliance, which is dedicated to protected the island and its inhabitants.

WELCOME TO MARYLAND

Assateague Island extends from Maryland to Virginia. This site is entirely focused on the MARYLAND side of the island. Check out the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge for information about the Virginia side of the island.
We created this site to share the beauty of the island, and offer some local information to promote our businesses surrounding the parks. We’d also like to give visitors some information about planning their visit. We are NOT affiliated with the official Maryland State Park or Assateague Island National Seashore. For specific questions about the parks, please visit the official websites for the Assateague Maryland State Park or the Assateague Island National Seashore.
